Exchanging wisdom
A week or so ago we joined the fascinating Helen Guinness for one of her discussions at The Wisdom Exchange. We found it very moving!
Helen is a friend so, of course, we were predisposed to enjoy ourselves when we joined her online small-group discussion, but it was obvious from the first moments that her energy and passion were present. The prepared materials were thought and discussion provoking.
Helen’s brilliant idea is to create a space, a forum, for exchanging ideas and for intellectual stimulation and challenge. For one hour a month she brings together small, diverse groups who set everything else aside for stimulating topic-focussed discussions.
Those ancient Greeks promulgated the idea that wisdom was understanding why things are a certain way, which feels deeper than merely knowing that things are a certain way. I think they were on to something.
Helen certainly seems to be offering a path towards that understanding, but the experience of participating in such discussions was moving and stimulating. Such discussions may be one of the many vectors by which God speaks to us.
